My Automation Week #14
In the last week, I have been overwhelmed with the generosity and kindness of companies and individuals, who have reached out to offer assistance to the NHS. working hard to ensure patients are looked after, and we will be able to cope as more patients are infected with the virus. To protect my immediate team, I have imposed a dispersed workforce to lower the risk of infection and to ensure we will be able to provide continuity of service. Fortunately, with cloud-based autom

My Automation Week #13
The launch of the NHS Digital Exchange hosted by Blue Prism Cloud was warmly received and sparked a flurry of conversations with existing NHS Trusts as well as many new ones. The value of collaboration is vital to scale automation at pace and in a cost-effective way. A prime example recently was between my Trust and our friends at University Hospital Birmingham (UHB). UHB had ongoing challenges with recent changes to the NHS Electronic Referral System (ERS) and the handling o

My Automation Week #12
This week saw the launch of the NHS Digital Exchange on the Blue Prism DX platform. An ever-expanding collection of forty plus objects and processes to aid healthcare organisations deploy in a time-saving way. I have been in contact with several Trusts to get them registered and sharing. Planning is underway for the first formal NHS automation leaders forum. Slightly later than intended as I wanted to launch the digital exchange. Perhaps we can hold our first meeting as part

Automation in HR - Video Webinar
This blog features a webinar (split into four parts) I presented a few months ago about automation in Human Resources. I have created two processes which are available via the NHS Digital Exchange. More than 16 others are planning in the coming months! If anyone needs any help, advice or assistance, please feel free to reach out to me. #RPA #AI #blueprism #timematters #ESNEFT

How do I engage with the Digital Exchange?
Each participating Trust will need to register on the Digital Exchange and create an instance for their organisation. This area is private to your Trust and is an area where you can create and upload your artefacts. At the first NHS Automation Leaders Forum, we will discuss how the collaboration partnership will work in terms of sharing work and how we can protect our NHS investment. The complication comes in that there is a mix of Trusts who are developing solutions within t

What does the NHS Digital Exchange look like?
Each digital exchange artefact has a home page that offers the packaged blue prism cloud robotic processes and objects for importing into your technology platform. Remember, the artefacts are designed to meet ESNEFT's standard operating procedures, and it should not be assumed that these artefacts can be blindly launched into production. It is imperative that due diligence is applied and any consumed artefacts follow in-house governance, where applicable clinical risk assessm

How the NHS Digital Exchange (DX) for Automation can transform service delivery.
The rationale and drivers for greater automation within the NHS are beyond argument – increased demand for services, frozen or shrinking budgets and crippling skills shortages. Add in the often shockingly slow and inefficient processes which are such a drain on staff time and morale and a barrier to improved service delivery, and it’s little wonder that digitisation has become such a holy grail for successive Governments and senior NHS leaders. As we all know, the narrative a

My Automation Week #11
Apologies to everyone for the lack of updates over the last few weeks. With a week of 50th birthday celebrations in New York and increased demands on my time, it hasn't been possible to write new content. This blog entry will share with you some recent highlights. The acquisition of Thoughtonomy by Blue Prism has allowed me to re-evaluate the NHS Marketplace. Over the last few weeks, 40+ processes and objects have been collated, verified, repackaged and loaded into a private

My Automation Week #10
The Christmas holidays are an excellent time to catch up on the workload, get some quiet time to concentrate and take advantage of no interruptions or last-minute demands on my time. With the last 12 months so frantic I had the opportunity to restructure the production environment, delete some redundant processes and objects and ensure live and development settings were fully synced. My first HR process (ECF Chasers - featured in a previous process deep dive blog) was moved i

My Automation Week #8
The last week before Christmas is always manic with so many social events to squeeze in as well as trying to shift the workload before the Christmas break. Our first automation for Human Resources (HR) is complete. This process will be the first of many over the coming months. The automated escalation and emailing of pending establishment control forms to divisional signatories will save administration staff over one hour per day. It will contribute to speeding up the time to

My Automation Week #7
Our new patient telephone checker process ran in production for the first time this week, and the results are encouraging. As explained in a previous blog, this process aims to improve the number of positive patient responses to our outpatient appointment reminder service. The hope is we can free-up more unwanted patient appointments reducing our Outpatient DNA rate further and improve clinic utilisation. Over the first three days the bot handled 161 transactions with the bre
